University of Hyderabad’s Department of Theatre Arts will be hosting an annual conference of International Federation of Theatre Research (IFTR-2015) from July 5-10. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Theatre and Democracy’. IFTR is the foremost theatre research and publication organisation in the world that strives to promote collaboration and the exchange of information between individuals and organisations concerned with theatre research.

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Theatre and Democracy’. IFTR is the foremost theatre research and publication organisation in the world that strives to promote collaboration and the exchange of information between individuals and organisations concerned with theatre research.



This is the fourth time the conference will be traveling to Asia and UoH is looking forward to an intellectually stimulating week of conference papers, keynote lectures, working group discussions and theatre events curated especially for the conference. There are more than four hundred papers to be presented in different panels in the conference.



There will four keynote addresses by renowned scholars including Prof. Prabhat Patnaik, Prof. Anuradha Kapur, Prof. Elaine Aston and Prof. Partha Chatterjee at 4 pm in DST Auditorium. Different groups will be performing during the conference which includes Kanhailal (Kalakshetra-Manipur), Jayachandran (Attakkalari- Bengaluru), Maya Rao (Vismayah- Delhi), Natasha Davis (Warwick) and traditional forms like Perini and Kutiyattam.



The inaugural performance will be done by Gaddar on July 6 at 6.30 pm.The conference is organised with the support of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Southern Regional Centre, Bengaluru; Department of Language and Culture, Government of Telangana and Goethe Zentrum.
