Osmania General Hospital hosted the National Bone and Joint Day on Wednesday to raise awareness on bone and joint conditions in the society with the theme ‘Stronger Bones Stronger India’. Needy patients were provided with orthopedic appliances and Dr Rakesh Sahay, professor of endocrinology, delivered the guest lecture on osteoporosis on the occasion.

Needy patients were provided with orthopedic appliances and Dr Rakesh Sahay, professor of endocrinology, delivered the guest lecture on osteoporosis on the occasion.


Fruits were distributed to patients. Later the faculty and the participants took a walk around the hospital to spread awareness among doctors and public about the significance of National Bone and Joint Day. The aim of the day was to sensitise the society about increasing impact of musculo-skeletal conditions and to promote cost-effective prevention and treatment. Poor bone health affects work potential and performance and adds to disease burden in later life.


Bone health of the girl child is more important as she is the future mother. Physical exercises, intake of milk, calcium and other minerals, vitamin supplementation, fruits and vegetable consumption was emphasised to strengthen the bones. The ingestion of aerated drinks especially colas was strongly derided as they weaken the bones.
