While the ex-Corporators in the Serilingampally constituency maintain that they conducted multiple visits to colonies of the area and provided civic amenities, residents have a different story to tell.
A land where ex-Corporators maintain that they did “sufficient” works for the locals while the ground reality churns out a different story—the national flag is disrespected and money is spent by the Corporation without considering the locals’ needs
Voters’ profile
The constituency has a huge base of nearly 5.71 lakh voters in its ten divisions viz. Kondapur with 72,911 voters, Gachibowli with 42,080 voters, Serilingampally with 62,455 voters, Madhapur with 56,786 voters, Miyapur with 56,029 voters, Hafeezpet with 71,261 voters, Chanda Nagar with 57,496 voters, Vivekananda (VV) Nagar colony with 52,996 voters, Hydernagar with 43,546 voters and Allwyn colony with 55,769 voters.
While the ex-Corporators in the Serilingampally constituency maintain that they conducted multiple visits to colonies of the area and provided civic amenities, residents have a different story to tell.
The locals complained that amenities provided in many places like garbage bins, footpaths, streetlights and roads were done without examining the area and the need of their needs. With the lack of accountability by the Corporators, many development activities are found to be going in a slow pace.
Serilingampally constituency is one of the biggest constituencies falling in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) with ten divisions in it. The constituency is also referred to as the home of IT hub with multinational companies settled here.
Poor construction material used
The locals are depressed over the quality of roads in their colonies that need repair all the time. A local from Allwyn colony, Kailash said that the Corporation laid a new road a few years ago but, these roads need repairs every other month. “Every month, the GHMC authorities come to repair the roads and fill the potholes. In spite of that, the roads here are in a terrible condition,” he said.
He said that due to use of the poor construction materials, locals and commuters are forced to bare problems. Many colonies in VV Nagar, Allwyn colony, Miyapur, Serlingampally, and Hafeezpet have been found with a similar situation.
Bridge remains unattended
The extension of bridge request at Allwyn colony has been unattended from the last four years. Locals inform that the ex-Corporator has kept a deaf ear on the matter. The minor bridge, which connects Allwyn colony and Prasanna Nagar, attracts huge traffic jams and needs to be extended.
A private employee and resident, Siddharth said that this is the only road to go to Kukatpally for the colonies on this stretch. “The condition is worse during morning and evening when a lot of commuters pass from here,” he said.
Illegal water mining
The complaints over illegal water mining, especially in Serilingampally are found to be in heavy numbers. With less supply of drinking water in the constituency, unauthorised water tanker dealers are selling the groundwater illegally.
A resident of Gokul Nagar in Serilingampally, Nagesh informed that they complained about the issue to the tahsildar but, no positive action has been initiated. “More than 20 cases of illegal water mining have happened in our colony in the last one year,” he informed. However, the local ex-Corporator said that though he is aware of the issue he has not received any written complaints from the locals on the matter.
Indian Flag neglected
Despite several reminders to the Serilingampally GHMC officers, the authorities failed to bring down the national flag in Chanda Nagar health centre premises, which was hoisted last year.
The locals said that the flag was hoisted on Independence Day last year and authorities have not taken care to remove it after the occasion.
The local Corporator was found clueless when asked about it.
When HANS informed the inspector of Chanda Nagar police station, N Vasu, he has assured that he will soon enquire with the civic authorities and will take an action.
Miscellaneous issues
The complaints over the irregularities in lifting of garbage, poor maintenance of streetlights, low water supply and non availability of footpaths were found in large numbers in Hafeezpet, VV Nagar and Hyder Nagar. Locals have also complained about water logging and drainage leakage issues in colonies of Chanda Nagar and Hafeezpet.
A local from Chanda Nagar, Krishna said that since their colony is in low lying areas, they face a lot of trouble during the rainy season. “Authorities attend the drainage related complaints after over a week’s time,” he said.
When Hans contacted the local ex-Corporators, majority of them were reluctant to speak and refused to comment on the questions. Ex-Corporators from VV Nagar, Chanda Nagar, Kondapur amd Serilingampally replied saying that they have done enough work during their course time.
