Hyderabad: Shocked over the unending spate of defections from the party, the TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday rushed to Hyderabad and convened an emergency meeting of party leaders to review the situation and prevent further migration from the party.

But his efforts do not seem to have fructified as Narayanpet MLA Rajendra Reddy joined the TRS late on Thursday evening. Reddy held talks with Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao at a star hotel in the city. This happened even as Naidu was making pep talk with the party leaders from Telangana.

Naidu discussed in detail the reasons for the party’s drubbing in the just-concluded GHMC elections and the resumption of Operation Akarsh by the TRS government. Leaders including TDP Telangana unit president L Ramana and working president A Revanth Reddy explained the lack of close monitoring of party affairs by Naidu which had resulted in the sad state of the party affairs which had pushed it to the verge of extinction. They requested Naidu to spare time for the revival of the party in the State.

Another senior leader M Narasimhulu expressed anguish over not giving him any important role to play in the party affairs after the creation of TDP Telangana State committee recently. He said the party was moving directionless as Naidu was concentrating only on AP affairs.

The TDP chief said he would consider the leaders’ request to keep an eye on party affairs in Telangana State. Since he was busy with the development of AP and strengthening of the party in Andhra Pradesh he could not give time to Telangana, he confessed.

Sources said in the in-camera meeting that lasted for more than two hours, the leaders brought to the notice of Naidu how the TRS was luring TDP leaders aiming to reduce the party as a non-entity in Telangana. The possibility of change of leadership at all levels from the State, district and mandal level party committees was also said to have been discussed in the meeting.
