Former National Basketball Association (NBA) player Joe Courtney feels that although the sport is growing in popularity in India the country has a long way to go to anywhere near the iconic standards. On his maiden visit to the country he, nonetheless, is bowled over by the enthusiasm that NBA generates across India despite the overflowing craze for cricket.

On his maiden visit to the country he, nonetheless, is bowled over by the enthusiasm that NBA generates across India despite the overflowing craze for cricket.

He said, “UBA is doing good job in its bid to boost the sport and the hoopsters are showing marked improvements which is a good sign. Competition-wise each match in the ongoing tournament has been a close affair with most of them being decided with a difference of six to eight points. However, there is scope for further improvement.”

On the available talent Joe observed that “Indian players are talented but they have to be given proper training which can happen only with more exposure to top-grade basketball”.Joe is impressed with the venue and also current NBA performer Stefen Currey’s approach to the game.
