The Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) ushered in activities towards the World Environment Day, which will be celebrated on June 5, by organising competitions for schoolchildren at Jawahar Bal Bhavan in Nampally on Wednesday.

Upto 300 students participated and showcased their commitment for the cause through paintings, quiz and group discussion on the topic, ‘Protection of Natural Resources.’

Senior social scientist of TSPCT N Raveender inaugurated the programme along with Dr Sunila from Environment Protection Training Research Institute.

Speaking after the event, Raveender said, “The wellbeing of humanity, environment and the functioning of the economy ultimately depend upon the responsible use of the planet’s natural resources. Evidence is building that the people are consuming far more natural resources than what the planet can sustainably provide.

The World Environment Day is a chance for people to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and to the future generations.” T Radhika, project officer coordinated the programme with school teachers and children.
