Anil Kumar Pathlavath has been awarded Phd in Journalism and Mass Communication from Osmania University on the topic, "Participatory Video (PV) and Its Impact on Communities (A Study of Community Video Units)".

This makes Pathlavath the first Schedule Tribe research scholar from Telangana to attain the PhD and also from Department of Communication and Journalism at the University.

According to a press note released by the University, Pathlavath completed the thesis under the guidence of Prof. B Balaswamy. He hails from Gollapalli Village, Jadcherla (Mandel) Mahabubnager District, Telangana. He is about to join as Assistant Professor in Christ University, Bangaluru.

Pathlavath facilitated PV trainings for various groups and is involved in projects including CAMP (Children As Media Producers), Videoactive Girls, Hyderabad, Manyam Praja Video, East Godavari among others. He also directed and edited three documentaries and trained over 100 people in video making skill.

He worked as a freelancer before he found his calling in the world of alternative media. He worked as a cinematographer on films, which have been screened at film festivals both in India and abroad.

Anil Kumar worked in the NGO sector for about three years, an organisation involved in Participatory Video. He was also involved in production of 100 ‘How To Videos’ to aid Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and was involved shooting and editing in Nairobi, Kenya.
