As part of Musi Riverfront Project, the State government is contemplating to develop 30 acres near Sangamam, close to Bapughat in Langar Houz where the tributaries of Musi meet. In this regard, the government would involve Telangana Tourism, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Hyderabad Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB).

As part of Musi Riverfront Project, the State government is contemplating to develop 30 acres near Sangamam, close to Bapughat in Langar Houz where the tributaries of Musi meet.

In this regard, the government would involve Telangana Tourism, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Hyderabad Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB).

Earlier, HMDA had proposed that riverfront development be carried out from Tipu Khan Bridge to Bapughat, covering an area of 64 acres.

However, the government has been keen on developing it along the Musi riverbed.

In addition, it has asked HMDA to rope in consultants to study whether the development site is free from any encumbrances, encroachments, litigations, pending cases and others.

The HMDA is required to search for revenue opportunities near the development site in order to make the project self-sustainable.

Highly placed sources in HMDA said that the government would take up the project in three phases.

It would develop the upper reach of Musi riverfront with Rs 647 crore, middle reach with Rs 2,162 crore and lower reach with Rs 155.2 crore.

The source informed that the estimated project cost would be Rs 2,965 crore and developing area will be 757 sqkm.

Sources have informed that after conducting a preliminary survey, Sangamam in the upper reach was identified as the ideal spot to begin the project due to its land availability and less contamination.

“The riverfront project would be taken up on a pilot basis to learn hindrances and outcome of Musi’s facelift,” said the source.

Sources said that the government would also involve tourism department to in Musi River Front development project.

He said that the tourism department and HMDA would finance the project.

He also said stressed that the river front development would be taken up as a pilot project to learn the hindrances and the outcome of this would decide the Musi's facelift.
