Members of Hyderabad Youth Assembly (HYA) spent their Christmas Eve with children of nine orphanages in and around the city over the weekend.Twenty-seven members divided into four groups visited institutions Amma Odi, Mother India, Amma Orphanage, Apna Sahara Society, Aaradana Foundation, Cheers Foundation, Om Sai Sevashram and Chaitanya Mahila Mandal and spread joy among its residents as part of their event ‘Merry Chirstmas & Happy New Year’.

Speaking about the initiative, Akshat Thonangi, Director of Goal 4 (Radiance) said, “Our aim was to create awareness about clean energy and of course celebrate the festival with the kids there.”

“We provided the children with DIY (do it yourself) assemble-able ‘solar and battery powered car+bulldozer transformable miniature models’ that they constructed themselves and also understood its working.

We also provided them with a USB connector LED lamp which, needless to say, can be connected to any device with a USB port. A ‘solar and battery powered LED emergency light’ was given, which had a solar panel on one side and also a chargeable battery chord, to re-charge it in a situation where there is a lack of proper sunlight or rather, darkness,” said Thonangi about the activities HYA undertook.

Director Amulya Bodla elaborated, “We explained to them our intent, which was to make them aware of the current scenario on renewable sources of energy at a ‘grass root level’ so that they grow up to further implement advanced measures to conserve energy resources on a larger scale.”
The event was coordinated by Vice-chairman of Goal 4, Nandagopal Reddy.
