He addressed a gathering at ‘Digi Dhan Mela’ held at NIT Warangal (NIT-W) here on Friday under the aegis of the Central government and Telangana State Information Technology Department to spread digital financial literacy among the public.

The Union Minister, who described demonetisation move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a brave step, reiterated that it has helped to bring down terrorist activities in the country.

Countries like China, Japan and USA have appreciated the PM’s move. There were nearly 26 crore account holders in the country under Jan Dhan scheme.

The labourers were able to receive their wages in time as the labour department ensured bank accounts to all the workers.

The Centre has allocated Rs 343 cores to present prizes to those make digital transactions. There were 107 crore mobile phones users and equal number of Aadhaar card holders and 175 crore bank account holders and these three are key to digital transactions, Dattatreya explained.

Minister of State for Steel and Mines Vishnu Deo Sai, who spoke at the mela, said ‘Lucky Grahak Yojana' and 'Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana' awards, which commenced on last Christmas day would conclude this year on Ambedkar Jayanti with the presentation of mega awards.

NITI Aayog adviser UK Sharma, Softnet chief executive officer R Shailesh Reddy, Ministry of E&IT Director M Sheshagiri Rao, UIDAI assistant director general N Satyanarayana, GWMC Commissioner Shruti Ojha, Warangal Rural District Collector Prashanth J Patil, NIT-W Director Prof GRC Reddy and others were present.

Minister appreciates cops’ endeavour
Pembarthi, the tiny village under Hasanparthy mandal which made rapid progressive strides after it was adopted by Warangal Police Commissionerate, has become cynosure of all eyes at the Digi Dhan Mela-2017 at NIT-W on Friday.

Minister of Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya, who visited the Digi Dhan Mela, appreciated the endeavours of the Warangal Police Commissionerate that brought a whole lot of change in the lives of Pembarthi villagers.

The women of the village caught the Minister by a surprise explaining their knowledge about the debit cards and use of Point of Sale (PoS).

It may be noted here that the Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu, who vowed to turn the village as another Gangadevipally, a model village that earned worldwide recognition due to its community-based developmental programmes, has shown special interest on the village. Besides restoring the Golam cheruvu (tank), the CP also succeeded in making the village liquor-free.
