Sircilla: The district headquarters hospital is in the eye of the storm as complaints galore against the staff. So rotten is the healthcare system that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao reportedly enquired about it after he got wind of the accusations against the hospital staff, who were allegedly demanding bribe for every work.
Compounding the poor healthcare facilities in the hospital was habitual irregular attendance of the staff, this despite the biometric attendance system and closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras were in place in the hospital to monitor the latecomers and early goers. This apart, it’s said that an unwritten price list of bribe is in force for every work in the hospital.
Sources in the administration say that the Chief Minister is apparently angry with what was going in the hospital. Against this backdrop, the District Collector, Krishna Bhaskar, who inspected the hospital on Tuesday, was dumbstruck as he found some medical and paramedical staff absent while the attendance register showed their signatures.
When the Collector wanted to see the footage of CCTV cameras to verify the attendance of staff, the hospital Superintendent B Tirupathi and computer operator Sai told him different versions. While the Superintendent said that due to the ongoing work of Intensive Care Unit, the CCTV cameras were not working for the last 15 days, the computer operator said they went defunct for the last two days.
Moreover, the computer operator tried to escape when the Collector wanted to see the footage by citing that impertinent reasons.
Krishna Bhaskar, who is well versed with the computers, accessed the footage himself and found only one doctor arrived at the hospital in time. He was also surprised to see the excel sheet of biometric attendance blank.
During his interaction with the patients, the Collector also found that paramedical staff is demanding Rs 600 for every delivery case. The Collector said that stringent action will be taken against the errant staff.
