Senior Professor Dr D Subhakar (aged 58) has been appointed as the first Vice Chancellor for the newly established VIT-AP University, Amaravati by the Chancellor Dr G Viswanathan. Prior to this, Dr Subhakar was the Dean of Academics and Director of Software Development at VIT, Vellore.
​Hyderabad: Senior Professor Dr D Subhakar (aged 58) has been appointed as the first Vice Chancellor for the newly established VIT-AP University, Amaravati by the Chancellor Dr G Viswanathan. Prior to this, Dr Subhakar was the Dean of Academics and Director of Software Development at VIT, Vellore.
Dr Subhakar, a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, was associated with the Agency for Non-conventional Energy & Rural Technology (ANERT), Trivandrum, under Dept. of Power, Govt. of Kerala as Scientist and served as Engineering Officer in Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) after starting his career as Assistant Professor in College of Agricultural Engineering, TNAU, Coimbatore. His 35 years’ experience has a rich mix of 12 years in Academics and 23 years in Research and Industry.
He has a B E Agricultural Engineering from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore and Masters in Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand with Energy Technology as specialization. He did his Ph D in the area of Renewable Energy (Solar Thermal) from IIT-Madras.
He is a Life Member of Institution of Engineers, India and the recipient of “Achievement Award” for the successful implementation of the Fully Flexible Credit System (FFCS® ) in VIT, Vellore. He also played an important role in implementing the new academic system, Curriculum for Applied Learning (CAL) at VIT, Vellore.
He has published 40 research papers in the journals of national and international repute to his credit. VIT has established a State Private University, VIT-AP at AP’s state capital, Amaravati. It is offering B-Tech in CSE, Data Analysis, Networking & Security, Mechanical, EEE and ECE.
It is also offering 5-year integrated M Tech in Software Engineering and Ph D in Engineering, Science, Humanities and Management. Project Based Learning through Engineering Clinics, Mandatory Co-op Internship semester and strong industry and international collaborations are some of the highlights of VIT-AP.
