District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary Anirose Christian has stressed on the need of collective efforts by the government and non-government agencies to prevent the menace of child marriages and human trafficking.
​Hanamkonda: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary Anirose Christian has stressed on the need of collective efforts by the government and non-government agencies to prevent the menace of child marriages and human trafficking.
She expressed distress over the practices like child marriages and human trafficking taking place in the society despite efforts by different government agencies to stop them. In order to put a stop to such practices, girl children must be educated, she suggested.
The DLSA secretary along with Regional Director of Woman and Child Welfare Department V Ramulu has taken part in district level coordination meeting of government and non-government agencies dealing with the issue of child and women.
The meeting was organised by Sarvodaya Youth Organisation in association with Karl Kübel Foundation (KKS) and German Federal Ministry for Economic and Development in Hanamkonda on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering Anirose Christian wanted cohesive measures by all the players engaged in the protection of the rights of children and women. Educated women should lend support to other women in distress she said and added care should be taken to see that section 498A would not be misused.
The DLSA would extend all possible help to the distressed women, she noted.The Regional Director of Woman and Child Welfare Ramulu felt that better results could be achieved when tje government and non-government agencies work together in protecting rights of women and girl children.
With the help of ‘One stop crisis centre’ and ‘Sakhi centre’ assistance was being provided to women subjected to domestic violence. The parents should ensure education to girl children making use of free education and hostels provided by the State government, he said.
Sarvodaya secretary P Damodar informed that through the Women Support Centres set up by the organisation have assisted nearly 6500 women in distress. To support women affected by domestic violence Gram Rakshaka Dalams and Skill Development Centres were set up and financial assistance was being provided, he added.
On the day, Rs 5.04 lakhs worth loans were distributed to 30 women to set up small enterprises and certificates were distributed to 64 women who were given three tailoring training by Sarvodaya.
