​Nalgonda: The Muslim brethren in three districts of Suryapet, Yadadri and Nalgonda celebrated the Eid-ul-Fitr (festival of charity) with pomp and piety on Monday. The Eid marks the culmination of fasting month of Ramadan.

On the day, a large number of Muslims assembled at Idgahs and mosques in the morning and offered special prayers. After prayers, they embraced each other and exchanged greetings. In Suryapet, Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy participated in a prayer meet and extended his greetings to the public.

Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said the state government was taking all measures to support Muslim minorities. He listed out various welfare schemes designed for the welfare of Muslims which include distribution of clothes, financial aid of Rs 75,000 to poor Muslim girls at the time of marriage under Shaadi Mubarak scheme, Rs 20 lakh aid for overseas education, Rs 1,000 honorarium to Imams and Muezzins, recognition of Urdu as optional first language and 12 per cent reservations to Muslims in education and employment.

In Nalgonda, deputy CLP leader Komatireddy Venkatreddy participated in a prayer meet at Idgah in Nalgonda and greeted the public. Meanwhile, the police made security arrangements in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri districts to ensure peace.
