During the second week of August, South Central Railways successfully installed the seventh escalator on platform no 4 and 5 and two lifts, one on platform no 1 and the other on 10. The installments of the escalators and the lifts have made Secunderabad Railway Station the first major station of Indian Railways to be equipped with escalators on all its 10 platforms and lifts on both its main platforms.

The cost of escalators, civil engineering works, electrical power supply arrangements etc have come up to nearly Rs 6.6 cr. The lifts which have been installed have the capacity to carry 20 persons at a time while the escalators rate 180 persons per minute. It has been estimated that around 43,000 people use these escalators on a daily basis.

The induction of these facilities makes movement between platforms quick and easy, especially for the sick, elderly and the disabled. With seven escalators and two lifts to its name, Secunderabad Railway Station sports a modern look with enhanced passenger comfort.
