Gamescom, held in Germany every year, is perhaps the next big event after E3. It is one of the world's largest gaming events catering to the honchos of the gaming industry from the press to game developers to publishers, and most importantly gamers.
This year’s Gamescom saw major announcements about Xbox One and the PS4. Both consoles offered various treats for their fans. A new Sims game along with new expansions to Diabolo III and XCOM were announced along with updates for previously announced games.
Gamescom always has been a pillar of the gaming industry and has received paramount importance. But this year’s expo, received all the more importance as the entire industry is slated to undergo an evolution seeing the devices Sony and Microsoft have offered. Both consoles outstrip their predecessors by a league and have completely changed, ‘the way the game works’.
It was announced that pre-ordering the Xbox One entitled customers to a free copy of FIFA 14. Approximately one third of the titles slated to be released for Xbox One are exclusives, including Tom Clancy’s The Division, an open world game by Ubisoft.
Other key titles include the likes of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Cobalt, Dead Rising 3, Fable Legends, Just Dance 2014, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, Need for Speed: Rivals, Skylanders: Swap Force, and Zumba Fitness: World.
Publishers also previewed their early code from their upcoming holiday season and 2014 roster titles. Among them, Titanfall was well received by the people.
Sony's PS4 got its long awaited release date with a guarantee of 33 titles by the end of the year. The handheld Vita also witnessed its price cut extended from Japan to Europe and North America, along with a large number of cult titles that will be launched on the mobile platform, led by Fez, Minecraft and Borderlands 2. While the Terminator promised "I'll be back!", it seems he is to start on a new virtual adventure. Reef Entertainment announced today that they've acquired the license to make a new title based on the first two movies called - Terminators: The Video Game.
