Tarun Tahiliani, the renowned fashion designer showcased his autumn winter collection 2013 -14 titled ‘The Kumbhback’ collection that had the glimmering saffrons along with a special gold collection and a couture and bridal collection at Hotel Trident in the city.

Tarun who has been one of the city’s favourite designers and had launched his boutique studio last year in Hyderabad talks about his collection, “The Couture Collection from our studio reflects the bygone era with a modern aplomb and demonstrates emotions that give shape to light, sensuous and luxurious drapes for occasion wear and weddings.”

Skirts, kurtis, jackets, dresses, the signature Tarun Tahiliani concept saris, gilets and accessories too (from bags to belts and stoles, and bajubandhs), are all imbibed with the distinct mood of India Modern-nestled deep within the designer’s own sensibilities. The menswear included dapper jackets, bandhgalas and trendy jodhpurs that can be worn for any occasion.
His wide range of gold collection could be any women’s desire in fashion. Elegant in a dulled white gold or sylph like in sparkling black, the convenience of wearing it like contemporary clothing comes with the effortless drapery of a Grecian goddess. The silhouette of the sari is maintained throughout, the pallu being created by a wire overhead as Greek and Indian sensibilities fuse, a moment worthy of Max Muller’s epiphany.
The couture collection on display at the venue is laden with the weight of history yet effervescent, as it sits lightly on one’s skin. The display could take you back to an age of excess where the hallmark of genuine Indian trousseau is painstaking made-by-hand details, the ornate embroidery and the intricate threadwork that form the collection. The colour palette is a pastoral romance of pinks, ivory, restrained beiges and bridal red.
Drapes have always been Tarun’s speciality. Turning all convention on its head, his men’s collection had draped dhotis out of a kanjeevaram sari and intricate sherwanis that sit lightly and with ease. Playing with multiple levels the sherwani, kurta and structured dhoti form a stairway to heaven. It was a rare treat to the city’s fashionistas as Tarun’s professionally handled and choreographed fashion show had beautiful models walking the ramp regally showcasing the best of his collection.
