A two-and-a-half-year-old boy who was kidnapped from the city on November 2 has been rescued. His abductors, including a woman, were arrested from West Bengal, on Monday.
Accused Ram Prasad Mistry and Priyanka Halder, both natives of 24 Parganas South district, West Bengal, were nabbed by a special team of Hyderabad police on November 9 from Dumki village and the child Aakash was safely rescued by the cops.
On Monday morning, the toddler was handed over to his parents by the cops. The family was seen exchanging profound tokens of gratitude with the cops.
Akash is the son of Gopal Maji and Archana. On November 2, Gopal Maji, a goldsmith by profession and a resident of Rikabgunj complained to the Charminar police that his elder sister’s son-in-law Ram Prasad Mistry abducted his son Aakash, on red herring of buying fire crackers and did not return home. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under section 363 of IPC and started investigations. Two teams were formed and pressed into action to trace and rescue the kidnapped boy. While the case was under investigation, Ram Prasad called up Gopal Maji and demanded a ransom of three kg of gold to release the boy.
Acting on a tip off, the police conducted a raid in Dumki village under Canning Police Station of 24- Paraganas South district, West Bengal, with the assistance of local police and apprehended the two accused.
On interrogation, the prime accused Ram Prasad Mistry confessed that he had earlier worked as a goldsmith at Gopal’s workshop for one year. He was, however, fired after which, he left for Kolkata. For the past one year, Ram Prasad has been unemployed. He then hatched a plan to earn easy money by kidnapping Gopal’s child for ransom.
As part of his plan, about one month back, he came to Hyderabad and started living in Gopal’s house. Being a close relative, Gopal did not object.
Before committing the offence, Ram Prasad arranged a car on rent. His friend Priyanka reached Hyderabad from West Bengal on the day of offence and as per their plan, they kidnapped Gopal’s son from his house.
They drove the boy to Dumki village in West Bengal and demanded gold as ransom to release the boy.
With clues, the Charminar police apprehended the accused and rescued the boy safely. On November 9, the accused persons were produced before Alipore Court, Kolkata, and a transit warrant was obtained.
The accused were brought to Hyderabad and produced before the Nampally Court.
As part of his plan, about one month back, the accused came to Hyderabad and started living in the complainant’s house. Being a close relative, the complainant did not object
