Armed Forces Flag Day is celebrated to raise funds from public and government organisations by carrying Flag Day collection boxes and selling flags and car stickers. The funds are utilised for the welfare of war widows, disabled soldiers and rehabilitation of ex-servicemen and their dependents


Directorate of Sainik Welfare of AP conducted a press meet in its office on Wednesday in connection with the Armed Forces Flag Day celebrations which would be conducted all over India on December 7. This year it is being celebrated on December 6 in view of the holiday the next day.


T Swarna Kumari, director of Sanik welfare said, “Armed Forces Flag Day is celebrated to raise funds from public and government organisations by carrying Flag Day collection boxes and selling flags and car stickers. The funds are utilised for the welfare of war widows, disabled soldiers and rehabilitation of ex-servicemen and their dependents.”


Army staff and 100 volunteers would visit the district collector, Hyderabad and Rangareddy, on December 6, to start the donation campaign. They would also be found collecting funds by request, on main roads and public gatherings, highlighting the importance and significance of the Armed Forces Flag Day.


District Zilla Sainik Welfare Officer of Hyderabad and Rangareddy spoke of the history and significance of the Armed Forces day and explained the need of the hour for a good cause.


The press meet was attended by Lt Col Kuldeep Singh, from Andhra Sub-Area Command, who is also in charge of the ex-servicemen helpline, to receive complaints and work for redressal of their grievances.


T Swarna Kumari said that this was an annual event, where all Zilla Sainik Welfare Officers in the state would be working together to raise the funds for a good cause. The amount collected would be deposited in the bank by way of term deposits, to earn yearly interest, which would be utilised for the benefit of the ex-armed forces personnel and their families, for the education of their children and dependents. The fund management and utilisation would be done through a committee which is under supervision and control of governor of AP.
She made fervent appeal to the general public, multinational companies, schools and government aided organisations and others to extend their helping hand towards a good cause.
