A ‘Road’ Carpet Welcome for Mr President, President Pranab Mukherjee Arrives in the City. Akash, a resident of Lothkunta says, “I have been observing from my childhood that only when the President, or any other VVIP visits the area, the roads are cleaned and relaid. Otherwise they remain in a sorry state for rest of the year.”

The city has decked up its streets as President Pranab Mukherjee arrives in the city today on his annual winter sojourn. For months together, pockets of the stretch between Karkhana to Rashtrapati Bhavan in Bolaram were bruised battered and left unattended to, leading to heavy traffic jams.
It is not just the roads, but the route has also been beautified. The dividers bear a fresh coat of paint, trees have been fenced, garbage has been cleaned up and structured railings have cropped up at the Lothkunta Bridge.
When asked about the beautification drive, Satya Narayana, a contractor with the Roads and Buildings Department, said, “We did not lay the road for the past four months as the rains always play a spoilsport. The roads are being laid now for two reasons- the season is right and also because the President is visiting us.”
But the residents in the vicinity are not happy. They say that the roads which have been carpeted and beautified is only restricted to the path which would be utilised by the convoy of Pranab Mukherjee. The other roads close by still suffer from alienation and remain deplorable.
Akash, a resident of Lothkunta says, “I have been observing from my childhood that only when the President, or any other VVIP visits the area, the roads are cleaned and relaid. Otherwise they remain in a sorry state for rest of the year.”
Reacting to this, the contractor mentioned that for the other passages, the tender has been approved and it would be mended in the next 15 to 20 days.
Ravi from Venkatapuram said, “We feel that we are living in a different country altogether after the roads have been cleaned, mended and painted. For the next one week, the water supply, roads, electricity and police patrolling would be top notch.”
Indeed, right from Trimulgherry till the Bison Road, the cops have been queuing up in numbers for the visit of the First Person of the country.
“I wish some more VVIPs visit Secunderabad every now and then. We get to enjoy clean, safe and smooth roads at least once a year. I hope the other roads get mended too before the elections next year,” smirked Vyshnavi, a resident of Alwal.
