The 13th CavinKare Ability Awards, jointly instituted by the FMCG giant CavinKare and national cross disability NGO Ability Foundation, are accepting nominations. The Cavinkare Ability Awards were introduced in 2003 to celebrate the spirit of achievers with disabilities.
CavinKare Ability Awards include a total of four awards, which are given as an acknowledgement of personal triumphs and achievements despite hardship. The awards salute the extraordinary spirit of victory against all odds, a looking beyond one’s own self and one’s physical limitations and celebrate the universality of human rights.
The awards come in two categories. The CavinKare Award for Eminence which is given to just one individual salutes the exemplary achievement of an individual with disability who has not only overcome great odds towards achievement but has also contributed significantly to society by initiating an organisation of his or her own. The award carries a citation, a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. The other award is the CavinKare Ability Mastery Awards, which are given to three individuals with disability in recognition of their extraordinary achievement in the field of arts, film, medicine, science, industry, technology, education, community development, human rights and sports. The awards carry a citation, a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each.
The selection process begins with advertisements calling for nominations. Any Indian national who has a disability (as per the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995) and has done exceptional work in his or her chosen field is eligible to apply. The nominations are short-listed and on-site visits are then made for an in-depth understanding. Based on this, the jury selects the recipients.
One may nominate himself or herself or someone they know. The presentation of the awards will take place in March 2015 at Chennai. For details and nomination forms visit www.cavinkare.com or www.abilityfoundation.org. Or call 044-24520016/24523013. The completed nomination forms must reach Ability Foundation on or before November 15.
