Art through the women’s eyes

The three-day art camp, ‘Colours of Statehood: Contours of women experiences’ brought a confluence of women aritstes and their expression alive on the canvas. The event, organised by Mukta-Telangana in association with Language and Culture Department of the State, was held at the resplendent Paigah Tombs, which proved to be a fitting location for art to flourish. Many artists, singers and eminent painters participated in the event.

Guest speaker Veda Kumar, Governing Council Member of Intach lauded the event. “This campaign is especially for women who don’t always get a chance to open up with their ideas; because we can observe that if there is any painting exhibition or participation there will be only a few women artists who join. Therefore, Vimala (member of Mukta) decided to conduct this camp in which women from villages and backward towns have displayed some extraordinary ideas and put their thoughts and imagination in the form of art.”

K Vimala spoke about the significance of the event to the women of the State. “We wanted to bring women painters of the State and that’s why we approached the Language and Culture Department. “The idea of women painting campaign, as I said earlier, is that women are being marginalised in all things. You can observe the listing art history for women in the State; they are always portrayed as victim and through violence.

What I want to say is that women can explore and put their thoughts in the form of art,” she added. “There are almost 30 painters who participated in the camp. Every day, we are organising interactive sessions with senior painters, which are inspiring these artists,” said Vimala. On the last day, members of the Mukta-Telangana will their website and a monthly e-magazine.
