Hyderabad-based artist Redon SK’s landscape paintings showcase the nature and rocks distinct to the region. He says he personally experienced that the rocks also can speak when we are deeply connected with the place and the way we look at it.
Redon, born at Amalapuram, Andhra Pradesh, studied painting in Kaladarshini for four years under KSVass, and pursued BFA from JNTU. He participated in many group shows and workshops.
“My journey as an artist is like a waterfall, which travels through many ups and downs. I am very fascinated to do new works trying new techniques and also new perspectives in paintings,” he shares.
As a part of exploring various techniques, he has dabbled in blindfold painting from past one year. He says that it’s deep meditation; “There are no techniques for this artwork, yet we need lots of knowledge and understanding of colour tones. I do this work with hands, brushes and painting knifes. Every time while painting, I face new difficulties yet I overcome with practice,” he states.
Redon recent works are mostly about nature and rocks. “My paintings are about the beautiful nature. When I do the landscape I try to give new look with colours and the subject, motion and the treatment in order to present it in an innovative way.
I used to go around the mountains and the quarries and I found different colour combinations, and different perspectives of the broken mountain stones, and the way they stand and fall down is amazing; these stones make for beautiful sculptures. So, I thought why can't I take the stone as a subject, why can't I present it in a beautiful way?”
“I used oils and acrylics on canvas. The paintings are done with painting knives. Only two works of the exhibition are done with brushes. It depends on the size of the canvas, the concept or idea I choose. It takes 10 to 30 minutes to complete each work,” he adds.
