Function halls told to shut down by 10 pm

Santosh Nagar: The owners of function halls in the old city fear loss of business after the police department’s directive of banning knives, swords and musical instruments during marriage celebrations.

According to the new rules, marriages are to end by 10 p.m. The circle inspector of Santosh Nagar police station P Satish held a meeting with the owners of function halls and instructed them to comply with the new rules. Anyone who violates the rules would be booked under Arms Act. Function hall owners say that most marriages in the old city take place late into the night and a baraat is a part and parcel of any marriage.
