Dabeerpura: The unearthing of cannon on Sunday afternoon in Dabeerpura created a buzz in the area. The cannon was unearthed when a house was being dismantled for reconstruction. The owner of the house Anand, a daily wage labourer immediately informed the local police.

When the Telangana Archaeology department officials were contacted they said that they would look into it on Monday. Ramulu Naik, Deputy Director of Heritage Telangana said, “Being a Sunday we would be able to tell the age of the cannon only after having a look at it.” He further added, “It was common during the Nizam’s era to place cannons at strategic locations to ward of enemy.”

The house where the cannon was found is close to Purani Haveli where the Nizam’s family lived and there is every possibility that the cannon might have been placed there as it is close to the boundary wall that the Nizam had demarcated.

Imran, an octogenarian and resident of Purani haveli area said, people were always banished from the inner wall area and sent beyond Chanchalguda. Even in 2016, a cannon was found in Hussinialam area when the owners were digging an area in the house.

In this case, Anand the owner said that he inherited the house from his forefathers and he had no clue how and when the cannon went underground. Presently, two constables have been giving guard to cannon and is under police custody. They said that it would weight about 800 kg.
