The month-long theatre festival ‘Manch Mahotsavam’ concludedon Sunday by staging the final set of plays ‘Gardhabandam’ and ‘Adugu’ at Amphitheatre, Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills. The theatre festival by techies received immense appreciation of people from all walks of life. A total of eight plays have been staged in the festival in various genres includes comedy, sentiment and social.
The final weekend began with the play ‘Gardhabandam, written by playwright, actor, and director Tanikella Bharani and directed by Srikanth Banala.
Gaardhabandam, which literally means donkey’s egg was written decades ago, is still relevant in the present social scenario. It is a mix of fictional mythology and contemporary social problems faced by the common man, a satire on inherited political power with a rib-tickling conversation.
The play is the story of a king who has no children. The innocent king does not know anything and does not even have basic knowledge of his kingdom. The minister, who wants to make his son the next king, tries to cheat the king in the name of ‘Gaardhabandam Yaagam’. The minister tells the king that the Gaardhabandam is an egg of a donkey that will provide a son to the king after it splits up.
The play clearly explains how a king was deceived by his minister in a comic way This play will make you laugh to the core and carry a sense of belonging to the responsibility towards society invoicing against the wrong happening in the society.
Actors include Neelesh Ahankari, Prashtanth Kumboji, Sundar, Srinivas Vallala, Suman Singasani and Bharath Reddy mesmerised the audience with their scintillating performance. The second play Adugu, written & directed by Harsha Chakilam, is a mixture of emotions focusing on patriotism.
The story revolves around a terrorist group who kidnaps passengers from the bus. The conversation between the passengers and terrorists will bring out the humorous fun, satirical context, Indianism, problems of migration to other countries etc. The play was performed by Harsha Chakilam, Sai Krishna Dheram, Rakesh Reddy Yasa, Rakesh Kumar Narlapuram, Prashanth Kumboji, Sowmya Eshwarla, Jyothi, Srinivas Vallaala and Arshadeep.
