An artistic approach
Artist Ajaysingh has done his BFA in Ceramics from Sir JJ School of Arts, Mumbai, and MFA in Ceramics from Visvabharathi, Santiniketan. His art practice is an expression of his experiences and surroundings. Ajay is showcasing his latest artwork titled ‘Earthen Abode’ at Kalakriti Art Gallery.

I chose broken pots and slabs for my art work which are some of the daily life elements used by people of Santiniketan. I used it to create an essence of the place with a technique of embossed visuals and displayed it as a mural; creating interior spaces with the pots
Ajay’s work displays an essence of his surrounding which is very common to the eye but the way one sees it is different. Through several mediums, he tries to play with the representation and create a sense of existence.
“I try to create a space which amalgamates a new perspective of seeing things and perceiving it,” said artist Ajaysingh.
The process of work accompanies with the material he chooses. Clay is the main medium to work with and is also a representation of his surroundings and household. By using art, he tries to create a space which amalgamates a new perspective of seeing things and perceiving it.
Ajaysingh says, “I chose broken pots and slabs which are some of the daily life elements used by the people of the Santiniketan to create an essence of the place with the technique of embossed/relief visuals and displayed it as a mural, creating interior spaces with the pots. It is a miniature version of an element of the space which creates the ambiance in a given space or exhibited indoor.”
His recent practices are the expressions of stay in Santiniketan. The subject is deeply connected with the soil and roots of the place. He has tried to make an endeavor to trace the life and spaces of people living in it.
