The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials in the area have been campaigning for reducing the use of polythene covers for packaging food items especially meat. Officials have been encouraging use of steel boxes for packing meat and other food items. They said that using plastic for food items can be dangerous for the health.
Malkajigiri: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials in the area have been campaigning for reducing the use of polythene covers for packaging food items especially meat. Officials have been encouraging use of steel boxes for packing meat and other food items. They said that using plastic for food items can be dangerous for the health.
GHMC officials issued notices to shop owners violating the plastic ban in the city. Civic officials have warned the businessmen to avoid using plastic covers or face the challan.
In a surprise check, the GHMC officials swamped down on several shops in the Malkajgiri area and too the owners by surprise. In several instances, the owners were caught off-guard. A senior GHMC official said, “Such checks would increase in the coming days and those who do not change would be issued challans.” The GHMC is also planning to start an awareness campaign. An official said that it takes a lot of time to make people understand and make them change their habits.
