Malkajgiri: Life has become tough for the staff working in the Swachh Bharat public toilets in Malkajgiri, Mirjalguda, Gowthamnagar, Safilguda, Mini-tankbund, Neredmet, R K Puram, Moulali and Sainikpuri launched by the Union government as they have been spending agonising days for the last five months without salaries (Each gets Rs 2,000).

They are also not sure how much each will receive as labour for their work from morning till night cleaning the toilets. There are skeptical that the contractor was pocketing their salaries by paying amounts once in two months.

Even those who use the toilets are allegedly refusing to pay Rs 2 per use. Some of them enter into arguments while trying to justify their decision, contending that the ‘GHMC is paying you (the worker) Rs.6,000 so why should we pay the small amount’.

One such suffering worker, Lakshmayya attached to the toilet near Saibaba temple, told The Hans India that he was facing hardships having not received salaries for the last five months. He said he was forced to ask loans to feed his family members.

A local resident, Satyanarayana, has appealed to the GHMC officials concerned to respond to the plight of the workers and ensure payment of salaries to them. Local residents are hoping that officials concerned will at least respond after reading about this sorry state of affairs.
