Hyderabad: The curiosity of two youngsters took a serious turn on Sunday when they got injured after lighting a fire to a live teargas shell in a playground at Osmania University campus.

The injured were rushed to Gandhi Hospital, where the doctors have declared their condition as stable. It may be mentioned here that two days ago police had fired large number teargas shells to quell the student protestors who wanted to participate in the 'Chalo Assembly' agitation.

The police said that the injured duo, identified as Santosh (18) and Vinod (12) both residents of Street No.2 in Tarnaka, had come to play cricket at the football ground 'A', which they did every Sunday. While playing, they noticed a teargas shell lying near the Indoor Stadium and instead of reporting it to the police started playing with it. Later, the duo lit a match and set the teargas shell on fire, resulting in a mild explosion, the police said.

Due to the explosion, both of them suffered burns on their hands and faces as the teargas shell emanated fire and smoke. Friends of the victims immediately informed their families over phone and were rushed to the Gandhi Hospital.

The staff said that they suffered very little burns and were out of danger. Osmania University police launched a probe to find out how the teargas shell reached there.
