Two Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) professors recently took part in a unique three-month International Certification Programme in Business Management for Women Executives (ICP-WX). Launched by the ASCI in September, the programme concluded at a glittering valedictory function at the University of Ljubljana (FELU), Slovenia, on December 12.
ASCI, under the aegis of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Government of India, conducted the first-of-its-kind programme to enhance the managerial competencies of women executives of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) through talent enrichment and international exposure, so that they could be groomed for higher role-responsibilities.
The programme was conducted in knowledge partnership with the International Center for Promotion of Enterprises and the Faculty of Economics, FELU. 23 women executives, representing 13 Maharatna and Navratna CPSEs, took part in the prestigious programme.
“The feedback we got from the participants was very encouraging. We wish to continue the unique programme to capacitate more women managers,” Prof. Paramita Dasgupta, director, Centre for Economics and Finance and Prof. M Chandrasekhar, director, Centre for Public Policy, at ASCI, said.
Both the professors who visited Slovenia to be a part of the international module of the programme, held a detailed discussion with their counterparts on the ways to strengthen the components of it. “It was an enriching experience for us. The programme provided us a great opportunity to brush up our managerial skills,” one of the participants, Alka Tuteja from Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, said. The programme was launched in ASCI on September 15. After the two-month (September 15 to November 12) domestic component at ASCI, the participants spent one month (November 15 to December 12) in Ljubljana.
Umesh Dongre, director, DPE, during his interaction with the participants, said that the programme helps in the vertical integration of the executives, helping them to understand and appreciate the challenges at different organizational levels in a public sector enterprise.
The Slovenian Minister for Education, Science and Sport, Stanka Setnikar Cankar, the FELU Dean, Prof. Metka Tekavčič, the ICPE director general, Janez Podobnik, the Indian ambassador for Slovenia, Sarvajit Chakravarti, The Slovenian Ambassador to India Darja Bavdaz Kuret and many other distinguished personalities interacted with the Indian participants during their stay in Ljubljana.
