The State government’s flagship programme, Mission Kakatiya, which aims to restore the glory of lakes in and around the city, is being taken up on a war-footing. A trial run of the weed harvesters that will be used for clearing out the hyacinth on lakes was conducted at Chinnarayuni Cheruvu at Alwal on Tuesday. Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Somesh Kumar were overseeing the run.

“The main aim of the programme is to beautify the lakes and to curb encroachments for the convenience of the citizens. The State government plans to save 169 lakes in the city.
