EXPULSION OF DALIT RESEARCH SCHOLARS

Hyderabad: Students of Osmania University (OU) and English and Foreign Languages University have protested against the expelling of five Dalit research scholars from the hostels of University of Hyderabad.

The protesting students raised slogans against UoH administration and RSS-BJP for allegedly “saffronosing” the education. They also burned the effigy of BJP Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya for writing a letter to Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani, leading to action against these research students.

They also condemned the interference of BJP Dattatreya and Smrithi Irani in the university affairs. It may be noted here that there was a scuffle between students belonging to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Ambedkar Students’ Association. The sub-committee and proctorial board which looked into the complaint decided the course of action.

The student organisations decided to launch a campaign against BJP in the upcoming GHMC elections.
Meanwhile, the UoH said action by the protesting students was restricted to only the administration building. All other departments and offices functioned as usual and no academic programme was affected on the campus.
