Hyderabad: The YSR Congress Party on Wednesday decided to stay away from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election scheduled to be held on February 2. YSR Congress Telangnana unit leaders met party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and discussed the winning prospects of the party in the civic body election.

Since the party was maintaining weak organisational network in the city, Jagan asked the Telangana party unit President P Sinivas Reddy not to field candidates in the election and instead concentrate on strengthening the party network from now onwards.

Reddy said the party is committed to fight against the ruling TRS for its failure in implementing the promises in the last 20 months. But, since the party was not strong enough organisationally to fight against TRS which has already resorted to ‘money and muscle’ power to grab the Mayoral post in the Greater Hyderabad, the YSRCP has decided to keep away from the polls, he added.

Besides strengthening the party in the city and emerge as a strong political force in the T state, he said YSR Congress will continue its fight on people’s issues. He alleged that Congress failed to perform as a main opposition party and TDP was embroiled in cash-for-vote scam.
