In a rare malformation, a baby was born without a nose to a woman in Alabama, Brandi McGlathery. The newly born was suffering from a rare disorder known as congenital arhinia that affects 1 in 197 million babies.

However, the mother stated that the baby named as Eli immediately started breathing normally through his mouth but due the complexity of the case, he was shifted to USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Mobile, Alabama.

The doctors have performed a tracheotomy for assisting the child’s breathing and the mother has been constantly by his side as he does not make a noise while crying.

The first ever case of congenital arhinia was reported in 1931 and since then only 43 cases have been recorded according to the article published in 2014 by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Already having contacted the parents of the babies with similar disorder, McGlathery has been informed that due to his current medical condition, the newly born can suffer from breathing and feeding problems in future.

Both the parents of Eli have decided not to go for any plastic surgery until he is older and decides on his own.

With the news spreading on Eli’s disorder, family and friends have set up a GoFundMe page where more than $5,000 has been raised so far.
