Nalgonda: In yet another case of selling a baby girl, a couple on Thursday has sold their 15-day-old baby girl at Vemulapally village in the district for Rs 10,000. When the matter came to the notice of Vemulapally Anganwadi teacher, she complained the same to the Child Protection and Development Officer (CPDO) of Miryalaguda. The CPDO Butchamma has rushed to Vemulapally and inquired into the matter.

The couple Kallem Saidulu and Bhagyamma, residents of Jangala Colony of Vermulapally, are eking out a living by working as daily labor. They already have three girl children. On October 14, Bhagyamma delivered another girl child at a private hospital much to the disappointment of the family.

After considering his financial condition, Saidulu has decided to give away the new born to others. Through a friend, he sold the child to Venkat Reddy, a resident of Pamulapadu village, on October 26. Venkat Reddy reportedly bought the girl child as his daughter Uma was suffering from infertility. Reddy was expecting to hand over the child to his son-in-law Bolla Krishna Reddy, a resident of Bopparam village of Athmakur (S) village.
CPDO Butchamma informed that based on the information she received from Anganwadi teacher, she visited the residence of Saidulu. During her inquiry, one of the daughters of Saidulu confessed that her father had sold away her newborn sister in her presence on Wednesday.

“I complained the matter to Vemulapally police, who would further investigate and file cases against the persons involved in sale of the girl child,” she added. Vemulapally police took Saidulu into custody. Further investigation is on.
