Khammam: District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar directed the officials of departments concerned to take steps for solving the SC, ST atrocity cases as early as possible to render justice to the victims.

The Collector along with Joint Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy and Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal chaired a District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting to discuss the pending cases of atrocities against the STs and SCs, here at Technical Training and Development Centre in Khammam on Friday.

Addressing the officials, the Collector said out of 37 ST and SC atrocity cases that were lodged in the district till now, 36 cases were identified as liable ones and among them, charge sheets of about 17 cases were filed and remaining 19 cases were under investigation.

“There is a feasibility of appointing a lawyer by the person on whom the case was lodged along with approaching the court. Depending on the evidences, necessary actions will be taken against the persons who are indulged in the ST and SC atrocity cases,” said the Collector.

The government had sanctioned Rs 1.26 crore to about 351 members of victims under SC and ST atrocity cases that were lodged in the district until Friday, he added.

Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal said all the complaints related to ST and SC cases were entered in FIR, along with taking necessary steps for solving the cases after thorough investigation.

Special Public Prosecutor S K Rama Rao said about 115 ST and SC atrocity cases were in pending until August 1. Of them, 80 cases belong to Khammam and remaining belong to Bhadradri-Kothagudem.

As per the High Court orders, the cases lodged before 2012 are taken up for hearing. Scheduled Castes Development Officer Achyutananda Gupta, District and Rural Development Officer V Muralidhar Rao, Rural Development Officer Purnachandra, Municipal Commissioner B Srinivas, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad Marupaka Nagesh, Chief Planning Officer Z Ramdas, Divisional Commissioner Of Police P V Ganesh, Rural Assistant Commissioner of Police K Suresh Kumar and the members of the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee were present along with others.
