Nalgonda: Demanding Minimum Support Price for their farm produce, cotton farmers on Tuesday staged a dharna on National Highway 65 near CCI purchasing centre at Pedda Kaparthy of Chityal mandal in the district.

According to sources, the purchase of cotton has been stalled at the CCI centre for the last five days in the name of moisture content.

Expressing their angst over the CCI rules, farmers, who have been waiting in queue in tractors and lorries at the cotton mill staged a sudden dharna on the National Highway 65.

They agitated for two hours bringing the traffic on the busy road to a standstill. Speaking to the media, the farmers informed that they have been waiting at CCI centre for so many days, but the officials concerned stopped the purchase citing moisture.

At the same time, mill owners were not allowing to unload the trucks containing cotton on the mill premises, thereby forcing the farmers to pay extra charges to lorry owners.

Upon receiving information, local police rushed to the spot and convinced the farmers to withdraw their protest.

Farmers, meanwhile, stated that they were not getting justice at CCI centres and demanded government's intervention in addressing the issue.
