Khammam: The task force officials on Tuesday arrested three inter-State ganja smugglers and seized 500 kilograms of dry ganja, worth Rs one crore, when the trio were transporting weed in a DCM and Scorpio vehicles near Singareni open-cast area at Shantinagar here.

The arrested were identified as Netvath Nageshwar Rao, Panugothu Suresh and Gogulothu Babu Lal, residents of Maripeda Bangla of Mahabubabad district.

According to the Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal, acting on a tipoff about ganja smuggling taking place from Thuni mandals of Visakhapatnam rural district to Maharashtra through Daralamma temple forest region via Khammam, the task force officials, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (task force) along with the cops of Karepalli intensified vehicular check and intercepted DCM and Scorpio vehicles at Shantinagar.

The police seized both the vehicles, three mobiles and Rs 30,000 from their possession. The top cop said that some persons have been involving in ganja smuggling to earn easy money in a short time and carrying out business in crores of rupees. Police will have a strict vigil on such persons and will take stringent actions against them, he warned.

Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal appreciated the task force police ACP Rehman and Singareni Circle Inspector Sambaraju ASI Karunakar, constables Jamaal, Mallesh, Azmath Ali, Venkateshwarlu and Karepalli ASI Kiran Kumar for nabbing the smugglers gang and handed over rewards to them.
