Khammam: Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) district secretary Shaik Basheeruddin demanded that the government withdraw the decision to privatise railways in the name of reforms and recruitment of unemployed youth in 2.5 lakhs vacant posts in railways here on Tuesday.

The activists of the Federation staged a dharna in protest against the decision of privatisation of railways in front of the station master’s office of Khammam Railway Station and submitted a representation to the station master.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaik Basheeruddin said the dharna was staged in front of the railway station master’s office demanding that the government withdraw the decision of privatisation of railways as part of the nationwide call given by the DYFI.

The railway was biggest and highest earning sector in India today than any other segment, he said, adding that instead of developing it, the Central government was trying to privatise the railways which would hinder the growth of the nation, he alleged.

“The government must withdraw the reemployment circular issued recently and fill all the 2.5 lakhs vacant posts in the railways immediately by releasing a new notification,” he demanded.

If the government moved ahead with its decision stubbornly, the DYFI would intensify the agitation and teach the government a fitting lesson, he warned.

Federation leaders Mudakanti Rambabu, Sheelam Veerababau, Shaik Afzal, Sarangi Papa Rao, J Nagesh, Veerabhadram, E Ashok, Pulla Rao, Pasha, Upendar, Rama Rao, Ramu, Sathish and Raju were present along with others.
