Gudivada: Krishna District Collector Budhaprakash M Jyothi on Monday warned the fish tank owners of criminal proceedings for diversion of drinking water released into the canals for other purposes.

The District Collector toured Moparru in Pedaparupudi mandal, Janardhanapuram, Ilaparru and Lakshminarasapuram in Nandivada mandal and several other villages in Gudlavalleru mandal in Gudivada division.

Speaking on the occasion, he said Nagarjuna Sagar water was released into canals in the district to meet the drinking water needs of people during summer. He directed the irrigation and revenue officials to file criminal cases if people are found to be diverting this water for other than drinking water purposes. He also asked them to get the water filtered before supplying to people as drinking water.

He warned of departmental action against officials for dereliction of duty if any water theft cases were brought to his notice. He directed the irrigation, police and revenue officials to monitor the use of water by touring the villages.

Gudivada Revenue Divisional Officer P Ranjit Basha, Irrigation Engineer Satyapal Reddy, Drainage Executive Engineer Narasimha Rao, Nageswara Rao, Varaprasada Rao and other mandal level officials accompanied the District Collector.
