Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has incurred a loss of around Rs 12 crore from the day when the employees of the National Mazdoor Union of Krishna district extended support to the ongoing agitation against bifurcation of the State.
The employees of the APSRTC, Krishna division have been boycotting duties since August 13. After the CWC decision on formation of Telangana State on July 30th, the employees have restricted the services in city and to distant places in support of Samaikyandhra. Later, they have joined hands with all other organisations to extend cooperation for the agitation against bifurcation.
Earlier, when the services were restricted, APSRTC suffered a loss of Rs 3 crore for a period of six days. Later, from the day when they have called for an indefinite strike, the RTC suffered a loss of Rs 1.4 crore per day. On the whole, it incurred a loss of Rs 12 crore in the division.
Around 8000 employees are participating in the strike and 1450 buses in the district have been restricted to the 14 depots.
The public are put to hardship due to lack of public transportation. Meanwhile, the employees of the Mazdoor Union have decided not to withdraw the agitation until the government re-considers its decision.
People are put to severe inconvenience as private operators are fleecing them with exorbitant fares. When contacted, president of the Employees Union, Vijayawada, P Prasad declared that the strike would continue till a decision, satisfactory to Seemandhra people, was taken.
