Florence Nightingale's 193rd birth anniversary celebratedA

srinivasuluKurnool : Nurses have been extending yeomen service to the society taking a cue from the life of Florence Nightingale, said Nakkalamitta Srinivasulu, vice-president of State Backward Classes Association.

Addressing a meeting got up in connection with 193 birthday celebrations of Florence Nightingale here on Sunday, he said that Andhra Pradesh Florence Nightingale Nurses Welfare Association was started at Kurnool for the welfare of nurses.

Former Minister Mulinti Mareppa District Health & Medical Officer Dr Narasimhulu and nursing students of various colleges were present in the celebrations. Srinivasulu said that the nurses were like more than family members and even family members would not serve the ailing family member better than nurses.

He said that the State Government should extend necessary facilities to the nurses who were extending selfless service to the humanity. The salaries paid to the nurses were very meager and it is high time their salaries were enhanced, he said. "I know the nurses were paid only Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3000," he said.

He said that the BC Association headed by R Krishnaiah would strive to bring recognition to the nurses and would also strive to bring pressure on the government to enact new laws for their welfare.
