The 45-day-old Samaikyandhra agitation here is going strong. The protests on Friday indicated no let-up whatsoever in the movement. Activists of the Employees’ and Teachers’ JAC besieged central government offices and raised slogans in favour of Samaikyandhra. They attributed the crisis in the State to the Congress Working Committee’s unilateral decision and demanded rollback of the decision.

Under the aegis of the Medical Joint Action Committee, medical and para-medical staff formed a human chain at the NTR Circle near the Kurnool Government Hospital and blocked roads leading to disruption of traffic. At Vinayak Ghat in the city, the Joint Action Committee of Intermediate educational institutions broke 101 coconuts.
Under the auspices of the Shirdi Sai Sathsangh, devotees celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the temple and distributed food to 3,000 people. The idol of Sai Baba was taken round in a chariot from the Konda Reddy Fort to the Raj Vihar Centre. Special prayers were conducted in the Sai Baba temple to keep the State united.
State Samaikyandhra Parirakshana Samithi general secretary Raja Reddy said that supporters of the Samaikyandhra movement would go to New Delhi during the first week of October to bring pressure on the Central leaders and highlight the need to keep the State united. He said that the MPs and Central ministers from the region should quit their posts and join the Samaikyandhra movement so as to bring pressure on the UPA government. The movement would spread to the villages, he said.
