A fresh directive has been issued by the Additional Director General Defence Estates clarifying that the Cantonment Board will have a prominent role in closure and reopening of roads.

The principal directors of all commands were issued a May 31 letter with a copy to chief executive officers of all 62 Cantonment boards, including SCB.
Accordingly, no road shall be closed other than security concerns and the proposal has to be examined by the Cantonment Board.
As per the letter, the Ministry of Defence order on roads will be noted in the next Cantonment board meeting.
