NAVI MUMBAI: On Sunday at the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, at around 4 AM. A couple who were driving from Bengaluru to Mumbai had died after their car — a WagonR had rammed a truck. Their children were saved with minor injuries.

The police have identified that the deceased was Ankit Chugh, who is 34-years-old, an IT engineer, and his wife Sanjana Chugh, 30-years-old. The accident took place when the driver of the Rajasthan-registered truck had suddenly braked near Panvel, and Ankit is said to have rammed the vehicle.

Police rushed the couple in an ambulance to a hospital at New Panvel where Sanjana was declared to be brought dead and Ankit had died within 30 minutes of starting the treatment. Their children have been shifted to a Vashi hospital where they are stable but currently traumatized.

A police officer had said that the Chugh family was coming to Mumbai to attend the spiritual discourse event of the Sant Nirankari Mission which is being held in Kharghar from the 24th of December to 26th. The police sources said that father of Ankit, Bhupendra alias Dilbar Chugh is the branch head of Sant Nirankari Mission in Mumbai.

After learning about the accident, parents of the deceased who reside in Dadar had rushed to Panvel and shifted the grandchildren to MGM Hospital in Vashi for better treatment.

Kiran Singh, who is a relative of the deceased, had said that the children haven’t been informed of the death of their parents, as they are already traumatized by the accident. The bodies of the couple have been sent to the KEM Hospital for postmortem.
