Siddipet (Medak): TRSLP Deputy Leader and MLA T Harish Rao appealed to the people’s representatives belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes to strive hard for the development of Dalit colonies by properly utilizing the funds from the SC, ST Sub Plan.
Addressing the meeting organised by Dalit Bahujan Front for bringing awareness among the newly elected sarpanches and ward members belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes at the Press Club here on Wednesday, the senior TRS leader said that the government had been taking away the rights bestowed upon the sarpanches through Panchayat Raj Act.
He said that attachment of check power to the village secretaries along with the sarpanches was nothing but to humiliate the elected sarpanches. “Development of villages has been affected as the successive governments never released necessary funds,” he added.
However, the silver lining was the recently enacted SC,ST Sub-Plan which would enable the Dalit colonies to receive adequate funds for the development, the MLA said. Harish Rao said that Rs. 200 crore has been sanctioned for Medak district and every village would receive funds through Panchayat Raj department.
He said that the sarpanches should strive for the overall development of the villages and gain good reputation among people.
Telangana Vidyavantula Vedika president and senior journalist Mallepalli Lakshmaiah said that the people’s representatives belonging to SC, ST should discharge their duties responsibly for the development of the people who elected them. “They should discharge their duties honestly and without selfishness to become good leaders and,” he added.
He said that they should remember that they were not only leaders of Dalits for all the people in the village. Noted writer Nandini Sidda Reddy, TJAC chairman Papaiah, representatives of Centre for Dalit Studies Anjaneyulu and YV Satyanarayana, TDP leader B Venkataiah, DBF representatives B Shankar, Metla Shankar, Rajamani, Lakshmi, Nagaraju and others were present. The newly elected Dalit sarpanches were felicitated in this connectiohn.
