DMK Chief Karunanidhi turns 90, party asks for wishes via cellphones

DMK president M Karunanidhi is celebrating his 90th birthday today. Several leaders of his party, religious leaders and people from different walks of life greeted the DMK chief at his residence in Chennai. The celebrations were a colourful lot. Sweets were distributed and crackers were burst . Infact the DMK cadres added another facility for sending birthday greetings to "Kalaignar" - through mobile phones or by accessing the portal www.kalaignarkarunanidhi.com. Karunanidhi paid homage at the memorials of his mentors, DMK founder C N Annadurai and Dravidar Kazhagam founder E V Ramasamy. Later, at the party headquarters at Anna Arivalayam, hundreds of party cadre queued up to wish him. A series of functions has been organised to mark the occasion, which include blood donation camp and a public meeting to be chaired by Karunanidhi later this evening, party sources said.
