Security threat from Naxals not only to the new state but nation as a whole.

New Delhi: Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Syed Asif Ibrahim on Thursday said Telangana throws up new challenge both at the state and the national level. Carving out of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh will pose a challenge not just to the security agencies of the state, but to the country at large.

The Intelligence Bureau Director, who chaired the DGPs Conference, which was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, came up with this startling revelation. In his welcome address, the IB Director said there was a growing view that bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to carve out the separate State of Telangana could result in new challenges.

He underlined the need for the police forces to take measures once the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh took place. On the issue of misuse of social media platforms, the IB Director gave the example of a video that was circulated in Western Uttar Pradesh, leading to the communal holocaust that claimed 50 lives in Muzaffarnagar. Ibrahim said that keeping the social fabric of the country intact was also a challenge including checking the misuse of the social media.

On the terror front, Asif Ibrahim said with the arrest of Yasin Bhatkal (IM founder) recently, 49 terror cases had been cracked. The challenge for security agencies remained, he said.
