New Delhi: The much-awaited Assembly elections in Delhi would be held on February 7 and the results announced three days later, the Election Commission announced on Monday as main players BJP, AAP and Congress expressed confidence of winning.

The polls were announced almost a year after Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) resigned as chief minister leading to President's rule in the national capital. AAP, which made its debut in Delhi in the 2013 Assembly polls, had won 28 seats while the BJP bagged 31 seats. AAP had formed the government with the support of Congress (8 MLAs) and JD(U) (one).

"Polling would be held on February 7 and the counting would take place on February 10," CEC V S Sampath told the media here. The last date for filing nomination is on January 21.

Tirupati bypoll on Feb 13

Hyderabad: The Election Commission on Monday announced the schedule for by- election to the Tirupati Assembly constituency. The Commission would issue notification on January 19 and the election would be held on February 13. The last date to submit nomination is January 27 and counting of votes will take place on February 16.
